A real love of heights

What is this? I see a furry white foot and a tail.

Aha! It is Sebastian lounging at the top of our dining room buffet.

Spike finds new use for low flush toilet

Papa Bear had decided it is time to replace the last of our water guzzling toilets so picked up a high efficiency dual flush toilet from Costco the other week. As soon as the box was brought into the house, Spike decided that this was another ideal sleeping spot, just for him. This is one of his more peaceful poses, and he does just fit, if he keeps his back legs tucked in. A couple of times we have walked by the box and found him fast asleep with his back legs and tail hanging over the end of the box. He has also found another use for the box, which is not making him a popular cat at the moment. Since this box is right by a bookcase, Spike has found that if he stretches up and balances on the bookcase, he can hook his paw around some of the items on the shelf and throw them to the floor. In order to reach the shelf he is interested in, he is stretched out almost full length. Papa Bear has tried a couple of times to capture a photo of this activity but Spike is well aware that he is not supposed to be on the bookcase, so he quickly scampers away when he sees us coming. He does not hear us but he can sense the vibrations of the footsteps so he is alerted to any movement coming closer to him!

Sebastian and the Squirrel

Papa Bear sprinkled several scoops of sunflower seeds in the front of the house with the expectation that this would attract many birds - for our cats' viewing pleasure. Before long the first "bird" showed up - a squirrel who looked remarkably well fed already. When I looked out the window, it wasn't intimidated by my face close to the glass and it simply kept eating. I brought Sebastian over for a closer look and he quickly hopped down, getting right up to the window for a closer look. His back legs twitched a little, looking like he was getting ready to try and take a leap through the window. Those big ears are pricked back and he is staring intently, not taking his eyes off the squirrel. Unfortunately, the squirrel decided he had eaten enough and went on his way, leaving a sorrowful cat, still in wait at the front window, just in case his prey re-appeared.

Turn that heat back on!

One would almost think it is too cold in the house for our well furred little cat. Most times he is curled up on this chair with his head stretched out on the padded arm. It was a bit chilly this past week, dropping to -19 and Angel's chair is right by the front door. We found him with his little pink nose tucked underneath his warm paw - not sure how he breathes comfortably with his nose pressed against the blanket and the fur from his paw covering the top of his nose.

Where Did I Leave that Foot?

Usually our photos of Angel relaxing look like a "copy paste" onto a chair, couch, bed, box, floor, etc. This time we saw him in a most unusual pose with his back leg poking out, looking perfectly comfortable.After a quick check to make sure he wasn't sitting on another of our white cats, we left him there to enjoy his solitude.

I am coming to see you!

Angel is always on the lookout for food - whether it is in his dish or on some unsuspecting human's plate. He has an unerring nose that seems to sniff out food no matter where it is being consumed. As mentioned before, he will wake us up when he is hungry by finding an unguarded human nose and licking it (not a very nice alarm clock, particularly at 6:00 AM!) In the late evening, as soon as someone heads to the kitchen, Angel runs out to his food dish and sits there patiently until some food shows up. He will wait up to 10 minutes, only giving up when the kitchen is vacated. If someone takes food into the living room, Angel will quickly find the shortest distance to get to that food, even if he has to walk across a chair and a coffee table. If we are not paying attention, that wet little nose will be soon be sniffing the plate in anticipation of a quick bite or two before someone notices!

Another kitty finds a new home

I have not yet seen this sweetie in person but you can bet I will be off for a visit soon! Our friend recently lost her beloved cat due to an age related disease and she has found a new love at the local Humane Society. Decisions are always tough when there are so many darling cats to choose from - but this cat won my friend's heart very quickly. Although the heading refers to "kitty", this little girl is getting close to her first full year but is still filled with the joy and wonder of kittenhood.
